Your Water Feature's Second Act
A pond, fountain, or waterfall is a daytime delight. At night, without light, it is a dark hole in the yard. With light, it becomes the single most captivating thing on your property. Water catches and bends light in ways nothing else does — a lit waterfall shimmers, a fountain becomes a dancing sculpture, a pond glows from within.
What We Light
Ponds. Submersible LED fixtures inside the pond wash the water from below. Koi ponds especially come alive — the fish drift through beams of light like something from an aquarium.
Fountains. Underwater lights at the base of the fountain turn every jet and cascade into moving light. The water itself becomes the fixture.
Waterfalls and streams. Carefully placed spots highlight the falling water and the rocks around it. The key is restraint — light the water's movement, not the pump house.
Pond surroundings. Up-lights on the plantings and rocks around the water tie the feature into the landscape so it does not float in darkness.
Safe, Purpose-Built Fixtures
Underwater lighting uses sealed, submersible fixtures rated for continuous underwater use, on the same low-voltage system as the rest of your landscape lighting. No line voltage in the water, ever. Fixtures are serviceable — we can pull, clean, and re-aim them without draining the pond.
Design Matters More Here
Water feature lighting is easy to overdo. Too many fixtures and the pond looks like a swimming pool; too few and it is murky. We use just enough light to reveal the water's movement and the feature's shape, then let darkness do the rest. Warm white is the standard — it flatters stone, water, and fish. Colored lights are available for holidays and parties, on a separate control so they never overstay their welcome.
Pairs With the Whole System
Water features rarely stand alone — they sit in a landscape. We tie the feature lighting into your overall lighting design and controls, so the pond glows on the same schedule as the rest of the yard, or on its own zone for pond-only evenings.

Designing Around Your Specific Water
No two water features are alike, and the lighting should not be either. A formal fountain with symmetrical jets wants symmetrical lighting — fixtures placed to mirror the water's geometry. A naturalistic pond with an irregular edge wants the opposite: a few well-chosen accents that feel discovered, not arranged. A waterfall wants light that follows the falling water's path, revealing its movement without flattening it.
During the consultation we study your feature the way it deserves: its shape, its materials, the sound it makes, how you experience it — from the patio, from the house windows, from the garden path. The lighting design grows out of that experience. A pond you watch from the kitchen window gets a different design than a fountain you pass on the walk.
Color: When and How
Warm white is the default for water features — it flatters stone, water, and fish, and it looks natural and elegant. But water takes color beautifully on special occasions, and modern LED systems can shift color on demand. The key is a separate control: holiday red and green in December, team colors for the big game, soft amber for the dinner party — then back to warm white for every normal evening.
We keep color as an option, never the main event. A pond lit in permanent purple stops being a pond and starts being a novelty. Tasteful color on occasions, timeless warm white every day — that is the formula that still looks good in year five.
Keeping It Clean and Clear
Underwater fixtures need occasional cleaning — algae and mineral film dim them over time, just like they film the pond walls. The fixtures we install lift out easily for wiping, with no draining required. During our regular maintenance visits we clean every underwater lens, check seals, and verify aim. Five minutes per fixture, twice a year, keeps the feature glowing.
Placement also matters for cleanliness. We position fixtures where water circulation keeps them relatively clear and where you can reach them without wading. Thoughtful placement at install time means effortless maintenance for years.
How It Works: Our Process
Step 1 — Feature study. We assess your pond, fountain, or waterfall — depth, liner, materials, power access — and how you experience it day and evening.
Step 2 — Design and proposal. Underwater and accent fixture plan with warm-white base lighting and optional color control, itemized.
Step 3 — Installation. Sealed submersible fixtures placed and aimed, surrounding landscape accents tied into your overall lighting zones.
Step 4 — Night fine-tuning. Water looks different lit than expected — we return after dark to adjust brightness and aim until the feature glows perfectly.
